Heating it up in the Midwest

We’ve been busy! Since our last blog update (Colorado!) we’ve enjoyed time in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. It’s amazing how time can fly when you’re having fun…but also be a wonderful hard challenge all the while, too. To sum things up, Kansas was windy, hot, and dusty. For much of the state we had a really strong crosswind—wind coming from our right and going to our left as we made our way down the road. That makes for challenging cycling as it’s not only not pushing you forward, but it’s often trying to push you out into traffic. That’s not great!

We’ve encountered some busy roads and a lot of construction zones, but also some really wonderful people, associated with Race Across America and just people out and about who are curious about the race and how it all happens. What a great way to see the country! At the moment, we’re still pumping away through the middle of Ohio. And the heat wave that has affected New England over the past few days is moving south and west, toward the Midwest and mid-Atlantic… But here are some photos from the past few days.

Atlantic City is still a ways away, but we might be able to see the lights on the horizon…soon!
